Access reports
Your project is unique. That’s why we don’t produce generic reports. We tailor our reports to reflect the nature, size and complexity of your job.
Desktop reviews
Do you need a thorough access check on your building design?
We review your design documents to ensure you achieve mandatory access standards. For example, we look at:
- drawings
- specifications
- door schedules
- fixtures, finishes and equipment schedules
- product data.
We can also recommend ways to achieve ‘best practice’ outcomes that meet the intent of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).
Performance solution reports
Is it hard for you to meet current disability access standards?
We can provide performance solutions (formerly known as alternative solutions) if:
- the building, or part of the building, is new
- it’s hard to meet the access standards – for example, difficult sites or special-use buildings
- the solution meets the performance requirements of the Building Code of Australia (BCA).
At Think Access, we are formally qualified to write performance solution reports as outlined in the BCA.
Dispensations
We can provide a dispensation report if:
- an existing building is being altered
- it’s hard to meet the standards – for example, upgrades to a heritage building
- a building surveyor is prepared to use his or her discretion to issue a dispensation. If not, we can always prepare a performance solution report.
In these cases, we can recommend options that still provide reasonable access for people with disability, even if they don’t fully comply with the current access standards.
Professional opinions
Do you need a clear interpretation of the disability access standards?
We can provide designers and building surveyors with a professional opinion about certain aspects of the access standards. For example, we may be asked for a professional opinion about whether parts of a building need to be accessible.
